to this town
in this space
i tread lightly

share 
a delicate chaos
atomic strength
resilient 
relentless
stretches but 
does not break

river in the sky
brought me here
where foothills beckon 
exposed and nurturing

oil drum vibrations     rise      up
infuse the air
one dozen notes 
on the chromatic scale 
resounding

twelve apostles           shiver
twelve days of christmas        shiver
twelve tales 
of triumph
and joy            shiver shiver

i shift 
from witness
to apprentice

water in the canyon
smooths rocks
feeds grasses

atoms coalesce  
in the air
i absorb them

footfalls grow firm 
in these hills
