James Evert Jones is Executive Director of Expressions L.A., having curated and hosted spoken word events for over 30 years throughout the Los Angeles area. James also hosts the monthly international reading: Spoken World Live, and the twice-monthly Expressions L.A. reading through his volunteer work with the Los Angeles Public Library system. A prolific poet, James’ work spans the spectrum of human relationships from innocent to erotic to reflective, turns a critical eye toward the American political landscape and focuses a cinematic lens to the multi-faceted perspectives of adventures that comprise humanity. James’ work has been featured in Redshift, Spectrum, A Decade of Sundays, Blue and the Blues, The Moment, Voices from Leimert Park Redux, and Onyx: Spoken Word among others. James is a 2017 and 2019 recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Award.
