Two Poems by LaTanya Coleman-Carter

The Fall written ‘In Synergy’ with “Ways of Knowing” by Isabel Avila

Judging a book by the cover has proven dangerous
Words used to ignite romance
Now tragedy
Shame cause he knew, could have warned me

This portal, I know it
I wanted to escape
He took me there
A garden of sticks and stones that have broken my bones

We entered together
But somehow our love fell off the shelf
The label on the bind disappeared
Where does our love belong, fiction

What was I even thinking
It had to be tragic…it’s love
So this is just part of the story
The end

B-Side written ‘In Synergy’ with “The Kiss” mixed media collage, detail, by Richard May

I was in love with my transition

It was liquid

Simmer

It was helpful to have him

It moved the transition

Sizzled

I knew it wasn’t forever

It wasn’t possible

Fluid

It was always fun

It was a distraction in many ways

Paint

It helped open my eyes to my truth

Stuck on a love circle

B-Side

My confidence

My power

My sexuality

My strength

My art
