curiosity on tip toes
inside your closed eyelids shadows images color
live in darkness
tapestry stories woven by ancestors nourish
threads of wonder hope bravery
welcomed change ignited by
past tempt future
eyes reflect our souls
heart beats ease transitions transgressions
ocean of life brings safe passage
open door let ancestors in
they know who we are
time to sit talk laugh cry
feel their power love
well never runs dry
your eyes open gift
window to the soul
see feel change
what color are your eyes
grey blue like my grandmother?

Govine Ituarte was chosen as Carrizozo Artist-in-Residence, New Mexico, and Poet-in-Residence at Goddard College in Vermont.
